In 2017, Manny Lubin and Josh Belinsky had a common goal: create a better chocolate milk. The milks on the market tasted delicious, but they were high in sugar and preservatives. They knew there had to be a more nutritious alternative. 

So, they created Slate: a better chocolate milk. Low in sugar, high in protein, and available in a shelf-stable aluminum can, Slate is a healthier, trendier, and more convenient option for people of all ages. Slate launched into the market in 2019 and is now available in over 400 retail stores across the country. 

From day one, Josh and Manny realized a reviews solution would be an essential part of their business’ success to allow customers to endorse the products and drive brand credibility.

Slate first partnered with Yotpo on a free self-service plan, built to enable small businesses to start collecting reviews right away. As Slate grew quickly and saw the positive impact reviews were having on the business, the team realized they needed to get more, fast. “We wanted more automated review request emails going out than we could get on the free plan,” says Lubin. “We’re all about ‘set it and forget it.’”

Slate upgraded to the Powerhouse plan and received the added help of a Customer Success Manager (CSM), a dedicated partner to optimize their strategy. “Our CSM was a huge help,” says Lubin. “He created a few custom review request options for us, including high-converting subject lines and coupons, and I simply chose the one I liked. For a small company like us, that level of service has been invaluable, and the customized emails have been great for brand building.

Now, Slate features reviews & ratings on their homepage, product pages, and category pages, as well as Smart Filters on product pages that enable shoppers to sort through topics to quickly find relevant reviews. “I love Smart Filters because we can provide customers with a quick way to search for reviews they care about, like a specific flavor or packaging type. Saving someone’s time is always an added benefit.”
