Pura Vida Bracelets, sported by influencers and free spirits worldwide, all began when two friends took a college graduation trip.


In 2010, Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman were in Costa Rica to enjoy some surf and sun. There they met Jorge and Joaquin, local artisans selling beautiful handmade bracelets and struggling to make ends meet. Inspired by their story and desperate to help, Griffin and Paul asked for 400 bracelets to bring back to the United States with them. 

Fast forward a few years, and Griffin and Paul were managing a multi-million dollar D2C brand on Shopify Plus, which had created steady jobs with solid incomes for artisans in Costa Rica and beyond. Their innovative marketing strategies and charity-minded business plan earned them both a spot on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List. To date, Pura Vida has made over $1.7 million in charitable donations.

As Pura Vida was first getting off the ground, growth quickly became the young company’s main objective. “Our biggest challenge was getting everyone to know about Pura Vida,” explains Griffin. We knew our customers loved us, and we wanted a way for them to share that love.” 

The company needed a way to generate a large volume of reviews, then leverage them across channels to spread awareness. They had tried a simple points-for-reviews solution, but, as Griffin explains, “We weren’t getting the results we needed. First, it proved challenging to get a significant amount of buyers to write reviews, and we certainly weren’t seeing an increase in traffic and sales from these reviews.”


With Yotpo, Pura Vida was able to grow their brand with the help of their best marketers: their customers. The team first implemented Yotpo’s Mail After Purchase feature. As Griffin explains, “Right away, we saw amazing results in terms of review volume, largely because of the in-mail review form.” 

Pura Vida also implemented Yotpo’s review widget onto “every single product page, category page, SEO page, and even our home page,” in order to build trust and credibility from the moment a potential customer lands onsite. 

The company incorporated their sudden influx of reviews and star ratings into Google search results, including Google Shopping Ads, Google Seller Ratings, and Rich Snippets in order to build trust upfront, improve SEO, and help drive more traffic to their site. The brand also took advantage of Yotpo’s Facebook Ad Integration, which allowed them to fill their Facebook ads with influential UGC.
